Can Van der Waals forces be compared with gravity?

I've been thinking for a while about this for a while, and my thinking comes from the fact that that the Van der Waals forces generate a force by the bonded electrons within a molecule at an instant being at one point in the molecule attracting it to other molecules. Now as the earth has an iron core, and the free electrons in this that allows it conduct electricity should in theory be able act in a way similar to the individual molecules. or am i totally wrong with my description and confusing it with dipole-dipole attraction. but i believe that my point would still stand as gravity is a relatively weak force affected be size as is Van der Waals.
